Winter Driving

Winter driving is the most difficult driving season. Snow and ice make even the most routine drive dangerous.

Vehicle Checks include the following:
-Check coolant level

-Check batteries

-Check Brakes

-Inspect tires for wear and proper inflation

-Test heater, defroster, and fans

-Inspect windshield for cracks

-Replace worn or damaged windshield wiper blades

While you are driving:

-Clear all ice, snow, and dirt off windows, mirros, and lights.

-Try to clear snow from all vehicle services so snow and ice that slides off doesn't block windshield

-Know the conditions of the road and touch brakes to measure effectiveness

-Reduce speed over bridges, suspended surfaces, turns, and exit/entry ramps

-Increase normal following distance of 4 seconds, an additional 1-2 seconds

-Turn headlights on anytime there is adverse weather conditions

-Watch out for pedestrians

-Make sure you have warm clothing including hat, gloves, and boots
